ATC Weather Radar Display (R-AWD)

The R-SYS Ltd. along with Micro-Step Ltd. introduce their joint product bringing cost effective and advanced engineering solution for presentation of current weather information within a controlled airspace area. At the time when sudden weather events (storms, heavy showers) occur ever more frequently, the ATC controllers seek, primarily at APP and TWR controller positions, for accurate current weather information covering precipitation areas of various intensity levels. R-AWD role in this challenge is to supplement the real-time weather information on the controllers' radar screens.

R-AWD main features:

  • Provision of various modes of operation displaying different types of weather information. Applied mode of operation is defined by configuration parameters such as data update rate (for 360° scan), radar range (40km, 80km, 100km), vertical scanning capacity and measurement accuracy.
  • Capability to display current weather conditions within 100km range with data update rate of 30sec. By use of R-AWD standard interface, output weather information can be provided to other users through web-oriented interface.
  • Presentation of new integrated weather picture on ATC controller screens, thus significantly improving flight safety in adverse weather conditions. The picture facilitates a flexible response of controllers to instant weather changes when controlling the air traffic. Based on such parameters as direction of storm cloud motion, change of wind intensity, etc. local weather forecast can be predicted for the next hours or days.
