Dismounted Soldier System – Monitoring and Gateway

A provision of C4I interoperability at soldier level has been managed by NAAG-AC/225-LCG/1-C4I Working Group within Dismounted Soldier System (DSS) program. The goal is to create an ability to exchange information between individuals, or members of fighting teams on a tactical level of coalition forces operations. Within this programme a common data model has been developed (JDSSDM, Joint Dismounted Soldier System Data Model), and a mechanism for information exchange has been designed (JDSSIEM, Joint Dismounted Soldier System Information Exchange Mechanism).

In 2010 an initial testing of JDSSDM was accomplished by our development team. In 2011 an interoperability of DSS communication protocol with C2SYS MIS was tested at a meeting of LCG-1 WG in Bratislava with support of R-SYS and CSBC.

Final version of JDSSIEM was completed thereafter and submitted for testing on the occasion of closing LCG-1 WG meeting in April 2012. At the meeting, R-SYS along with CSBC delivered 3D presentation of DSMon3D monitoring system and 2D presentation focused on an implementation of JDSSIEM-based communication interface into C2SYS MIS. The communication interface constitutes a gateway (DSGate) enabling a connection between DSS and national C2 system.

Presentations and interoperability tests of national C2 systems performed by contributing nations - Slovakia (CSBC and R-SYS), USA (USMC), Germany (Rheinmetall), Netherlands and Norway demonstrated that capability requirements set forth in a draft of STANAG 4677 are satisfied and members of coalition are ready for their implementation.
